Semarang — The Postgraduate School of Diponegoro University conducted a workshop titled “Disaster Waste Management,” which took place at the Postgraduate School of Diponegoro University on 5-6 March 2026. This is one of the crucial events in order to suppress the waste management that is caused by natural disasters. This event was attended by the representative of Environmental Ministries Japan, Shintaro Higashi, and numerous stakeholders from environmental fields in order to diminish these issues.
The event was opened by the Dean of the Postgraduate School of Diponegoro University, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., who sent a message to the audience about the importance of collaboration across fields to implement the “Disaster Waste Management.” In this opportunity, Sintaro Higashi of the Environmental Ministry of Japan said Japan will contribute to diminishing these problems.
The first presentation was conveyed by Ir. Diana Kusumastuti, M.T., from the Ministry of Public Works. She said that the Ministry of Public Works will commit to suppressing disaster problems, including managing waste accumulation caused by natural disasters.
In addition, participants received a presentation on strengthening the use of disaster-related waste estimation models. Emphasized that the role of local governments in waste management through the provision of final waste processing sites (TPA) and the classification of waste types for recycling. The event was interactive, with discussions between the speakers and participants, both in person and online.
